Further details
Kunena is installed and uninstalled by using the Joomla installer. Install is done by entering the URL into the URL field in the installer (recommended), or optionally, uploading the component package file.
The procedure above refer to the terms "test site" and "live site", some words about the purpose of a test site:
Test site: This copy will be the version you use for testing purposes. You can transplant it to a local testbed like WAMP or remote testing environment in a different directory on your server. The backup itself can be done manually by copying your entire Joomla directory from the server and exporting your database via phpmyadmin. This can also be accomplished by using a backup extension, like JoomlaPack or other.
If you have any questions before, during, or after the upgrade then please ask them on the appropriate upgrade forum.
For Kunena 1.0.9 build 1231, dated 2009-04-03, make sure that announcements are enabled to avoid the smiley class bug.
